Acknowledgment of Country
Acknowledgment of Country
I would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the Noongar and Wadandi people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I paint the majority of my mural work on. I would like to pay my respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
I would like to further acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders paying my respects to your Elders, past, present and emerging.
I also acknowledge that First Nations people have practised art for the past 80,000 years which has been a vital facet of traditional and modern cultural practises. The art of First Nations people has deep and rich contexts both historically and in the modern art landscape which is why it is imperative that Aboriginal artists are given more opportunities and support to continue their practises.
Painting the portraits of First Nations people is a huge privilege, honour and something that I cherish deeply. I hope I can continue to do so, in a way that respects their history, culture and vision.
Here are some of my favourite First Nations creatives I recommend checking out!
